The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is a multiple choice test written by Dr. David F. Lohman. It is used to measure cognitive development among children and is often used to identify gifted children for admissions into gifted and talented programs across the United States. This test is one way in which a child can qualify for the gifted program in South Carolina. Please refer to “How to qualify for the gifted program in South Carolina” for more information.
Please check with your child’s district to see when the CogAT will be administered.
***Greenville County CogAT tests will be administered on October 17-18, 2023
***Although Greenville Gifted is located in Greenville, SC- it is not affiliated with any school or school district.
Greenville Gifted is an enrichment program offered to early childhood students (grades K-3) to challenge them academically while allowing them to work alongside of other gifted students in a small group setting. Rising 3rd graders will focus predominantly on advanced math, but will touch on reading, while rising 1st and 2nd graders will focus on both reading and math.
CogAT and IOWA test prep will also be available to help children to be ready to take the gifted assessments in the 2nd grade.
Our philosophy is that ALL children have the right to an appropriate education. This includes those above grade level. I believe that all children should be challenged each and every day.
Students will receive small group instruction during the session and will be given optional assignments to work on before the next meeting.
Research suggests that at best, students showed little or no academic growth over the summer. At worst, students lost one to three months of learning. Summer learning loss was greatest in math computation and spelling.
Greenville Gifted will allow students to stay challenged and involved in the learning process virtually year long.
